Making sense of Sweets’ death

The death of Sweets on Bones saddened me. But I am not complaining about the way the writers bade goodbye to his character. It was tragic and painful, but angry fans, take this from Sweets himself, the FBI psychologist’s final words: “The world is a lot better than you think it is.” Yes it’s better even in the face of death. In a way I see it as the writers’ message to fans. Don’t fret even though a beloved character has died. Mourn but do not lose hope. Do not behave as if the whole world has turned against you. Bones is about both the living and the dead. Most victims die in a gruesome, brutal, senseless manner. But our heroes, Booth, Brennan, the Squints and Sweets, are not spared. In reality even the best among us can be victims of ugly circumstances. It’s a sad fact of life told albeit beautifully by Sweets’ death. So angry fans, calm down now and be rational.
